Schools with Character™
Creating the School We Want and Becoming the Person I Really Want to Be.
by Glenn M. Smith and Melanie Conger R.N.

The Curriculum was developed trough the efforts of Life Connections, Inc. and Journal Jots Publishing. The curriculum focuses on helping educators, parents, and children to create the conditions for their school to become a more proficient learning community. Our belief is that character education is not a curriculum given to students to arbitrarily learn but a fundamental set of principles embraced by educators and community members to practice and live with students.

Welcome to Personal Life Skills

Putting Values, Principles & Self-evaluation into Action.

The Life Connection’s Personal Life Skills Curriculum was original created by Glenn Smith and tested in Mecklenburg County Jail North, supported by the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.  The original course curriculum was created to provide research-based solutions to improve recidivism and personal development of individuals who are presently incarcerated. In 2002 Shelley Roy of Synergy Transition Consulting became a partner in the development of the curricula. The curriculums now include programs for incarcerated men, women and juveniles, juvenile offender diversion, addictions, couples, and K-12 schools. The journey has involved psychologists, instructional specialists, teachers, administrators, university professors, researchers - all working together for five years - to build an incredibly comprehensive solution to improve the lives of individuals. All programs designed by Roy and Smith utilize the latest research in learning, effective teaching, brain research, and have as a core an understanding of human behavior premised on the work of William T. Powers originator of  Perceptual Control Theory (PCT).

THESE FOUR WALLS
The Road From Imprisonment to Deliverance
BY: K. D. Hardy

To view a news report about K D. Hardy CLICK HERE

Kerry Hardy was a federal inmate who studied Perceptual Control Theory from a class taught by Glenn Smith and Life Connections while incarcerated at the Mecklenburg County Jail in Charlotte, NC. With his spiritual faith and the insight that he gained from the sixty hour course called: Becoming the Person You Really Want to Be, Kerry applied his new learned philosophy while serving six years in a federal prison. He writes: “Through understanding Perceptual Control Theory, I was able to create a reference of who I really wanted to be” He is now committed to giving back to the same community which he openly admits he helped destroy. All proceeds from his book goes to Kerry’s non-profit foundation entitled: The Foundation for Right Choices.

“If there is any one lesson that Kerry Hardy has learned, and any one powerful message that he can now preach to: the Masses,” it is that there are no shortcuts to success” Les Brown
